Can South African Life Insurers provide USD denominated life insurance?

In theory yes, but they typically don’t. A life insurance policy creates a liability for an insurer and insurers are fanatical risk managers. Should they offer foreign currency denominated policies it would create foreign currency denominated liabilities against ZAR denominated assets, creating a currency risk for the insurer and a potential Exchange Control risk. There are however solutions to these challenges that could make it possible to issue such policies.
